Booming

I was rehearsing with Annie Whittingham last night as we've got a gig next week. I've started doing some singing with her so next Thursday will be the first gig I sing backing vocals at. I thought I sounded alright last night, but God knows what I'm going to sound like when I have to sing down a microphone. I'm dreading the soundcheck where I'll have to hear my booming voice isolated in a rowdy pub.

So how large a venue are you hoping for. Do you plan to play solo, do you want backup for our original work or are you willing to jam with a singer/songwriter? Do you want a paying gig? If you've been reading craigslist, then you know what the scene is like in that regard. Do you have connections that you plan to use?
How soon to you want to play?

Hi Donnelly,
Thanks for stopping by.

Ah, these are all questions that I should be thinking about. I suppose what I'm after is Experience so I'm likely to take any opportunities that come my way.

I'm used to performing free gigs so that doesn't bother me. I don't have any connections whatsoever. I would definitely be up for jamming or collaborating with someone over there. And I was thinking of next summer as a goal date-wise. To be honest, playing at an open-mic night in Portland would be a dream come true, so any small venue would be great - even if it was playing in someone's front room.

My internet connection's packed up at the moment so I can't hear your songs on MySpace yet. But, I agree: there is nothing like sitting round the campfire with other musicians.

Hey, since you're going to be here next summer, possibly, I can see if I can help you out. There are many open mics, almost one every night of the week. Hell, you can hit them all. I'm trying to get paying gigs in this town, and it is a bit difficult. I've played at NineMuses Tavern three times, and plan to play there again. If I get a gig there in the summer and you're in town, I will share the stage with you. It's tentative, but hey, you just started this vacation. My only requirement; I'll be in London in 09 to visit relatives, and then off to France and Spain. I would be amazing if I could play a gig in London or Kent or hell LIVERPOOL! I'll send my contact information through myspace.
